Only last week local radio reported that over 250,000 households had put lives at risk by getting gas work carried out by unqualified tradesmen.
This staggering figure is largely attributable to homeowners and landlords trying to cut costs. Some even undertook the work themselves, this despite 35% openly admitting that they didn't really know what they were doing!
So never ever risk the lives of your family, neighbours or tenants by employing unqualified engineers to carry out gas work in your home, even if it it does look simple, e.g. connecting a cooker to a gas point.
Always check that an engineer is:
- Gas Safe Registered, and
- Qualified to do the work (details appear on the reverse of the ID card)
And remember, if the quotation sounds too good to be true it's likely that you're being duped.
