Kipling Estate

Project Description
Following the success of the Cardinal Bourne Estate project Leathermarket JMB asked Invicta to upgrade the district heating scheme on this Estate, which is located close to London Bridge.

The estate consists of a number of low-rise blocks, which are mostly interconnected by external balconies and stairwells. There are 112 homes comprised of a mix of bedsits, one-bed flats, three-bed maisonettes and one five-bed maisonette. The distribution pipework extends from the plantroom and runs underground throughout the estate to serve the various blocks.

The works involved the renewal of the existing heating and hot water, together with localised alterations to the cold-water services throughout the estate. The existing plantroom was stripped out and replaced with new plant equipment and all associated controls and pipework.

New distribution pipework was extended from the main plantroom to each of the dwellings via valve stations. The heating services in the dwellings was stripped out and replaced with new radiators, pipework and associated controls. Existing hot water services were replaced with new vented combination hot water cylinders and associated pipework and controls. The existing cold-water pipework was adapted to connect to the storage tank on the new cylinder combination units.

The 30 week project started in April 2020 after the Government announcement of the national lockdown and final handover to Leathermarket JMB was in November 2020. Consequently the majority of works were carried out successfully during the lockdown, despite the additional constraints placed upon the company with the need to comply fully with the COVID-19 regulations, which gave an extra complexity to the project.
